JEE Middleware Sr Technology Engineer position for Travelers Insurance in Hartford, Connecticut

The Travelers "Middleware - JEE" engineering group is seeking a Sr. Technology Engineer to join our Middleware team.  Candidates should have a strong background in JEE and Java technologies.  He/she should have experience in administrating JBoss (4.x,5.x) and WebSphere (6.x/7.x) application servers.  The individual would be responsible for the day-to-day support of Enterprise JEE infrastructures running on a variety of platforms.  The candidate would work closely with numerous teams (Operations, JEE Developers, Performance Engineering, etc.) to troubleshoot complex JEE infrastructure and application related issues.

Candidates should also have an understanding of supporting infrastructure components that comprise JEE application server environments.  Examples of supporting components are load balancers, web servers, operating systems, relational databases, security technologies, monitoring tools/techniques, source control management systems, deployment models/methodologies, IDE’s.

This position requires a candidate to work closely with numerous teams and excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.

BS/BA degree in Computer Science preferred

Primary Duties:
-Provide day to day support of JBoss and WebSphere application server infrastructures. 
-Provide support to JEE application teams in large scale JEE environments
-Assist application teams w/ deployments to server environments. 
-Responsible for configuring JEE deployment tool and configuring application server resources in an Enterprise server environment. 
-Troubleshoot JEE infrastructure and application related issues in a large scale server environments.
-Assist in designing and architecting Enterprise JEE infrastructures.
-Lead proof of concepts and research projects for lines of business.
-Provide technical consulting for Enterprise JEE projects/initiatives.
-Liaison w/ Operations, Engineering and JEE application teams.


Technical Requirements:
- 2+ years JBossAS 4.x administration experience.  JBoss Operations Network experience a plus.
-WebSphere Application Server experience.  Must have WAS 6.1 Network Deployment administration expertise.
- Java/JEE development background
- Experience w/ web server administration.  IIS 6 experience required.  Apache background a plus.
- Experience w/ UNIX (Linux, AIX) and Windows OS (W2k3).
- Strong scripting skills (I.e. PERL, Jython, Shell)
- Experience with load balancing technologies (F5 BIG IP / 3DNS / Cisco ACE)
- Experience with Enterprise Web Security Models and architectures.
- Experience with performance monitoring tools/techniques. 
- Knowledge of ITIL processes
- Understanding of JEE (1.5, EE5) concepts.
- Understanding of Service Oriented Architectures (SOA)
- Understanding of Java application frameworks (Similar to Apache Struts and JSF).
- Understanding of Source Control Systems (Example: MKS, Subversion).
- Understanding of Automated build tools such CruiseControl and ANT
- Understanding of DB2, Oracle and MS SQL databases.
